‘Synapse’ for piano (eBook-music)

Synapse

In the nervous system, a synapse is a structure that permits a neuron (or nerve cell) to pass an electrical or chemical signal to another neuron or to the target effector cell (Wikipedia).
The main subject of my work “Synapse” is “explosive octaves”. The beginning expresses a raw ore, so to speak. Then an eruption of repeated notes. Its fragments act as a gigantic precursor and signal…. And sobbing transfiguration follows. From the resulting whirlwind, a melody emerges.

‘Superstring Theory’ for two pianos (eBook-music)

Superstring

Two contrasting motifs develop together, and through tension and fusion grow in energy, developing into great waves.
Superstring theory is an attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature in one theory by modeling them as vibrations of tiny supersymmetric strings (Wikipedia).
This piece premiered by South Korean pianists in a concert of “The 46th Pan Music Festival 2018” in Seoul.
Afterwords, it premiered in Japan in “The 40th Edogawa City Music Festival”.

‘Who Rings’ for toy piano (eBook-music)

The title “Who Rings” is derived from the pronunciation of the Japanese “風鈴 (Fu-rin)” which means wind chimes. Wind chimes are constructed from suspended bells or other objects that are often made of metal or wood, which can strike when they are blown by the natural movement of air outside.

‘Möbius Loop’ for vibraphone solo (eBook-music)

Mobius

The musical loop produced by the vibraphone, as if a contemporary version of “En noir et blanc”, has undertones of laughter and sadness, from a sense of clashing to that of floating as a phantasm.

‘Breeze in A’ for bass flute, vibraphone, violin, viola and cello (eBook-music)

The vibraphone is the breeze filled with pale morning dew.
Its tone and silver luster harmonize with those of the bass flute….
This composition is a quintet beginning with symmetrical tones including three notes which one day I caught while playing my piano, and inspired me.

‘The Salutation’ for alto flute solo (eBook-music)

Three movements for alto flute solo : “Abyss” “Awakening” “Apparition”.
These three essences of three stanzas from the English poem “The Salutation” by Thomas Traherne (1637 or 1639-1674) inspired me to compose this piece.
This is a revised edition, which was modified after its debut and three performances in Kitami, Taiwan, Shimonoseki, and Tokyo.

Dedicated to the flutist Takanori Yamane.

‘Prism’ for harpsichord (eBook-music)

This work is made from a series of single tones covering the entire range of the harpsichord.
It becomes various chords and passages; like an individual prism, many colors from the spectrum appear.

Premiered on 27th July 2013 at BHS, The Finals Showcase Concert in London, by Jane Chapman.

It is dedicated to Satoko Shimamura, who is the wife of the founder of “Shimamura Music co., ltd.”
