The British Harpsichord Society Composition Competition

The British Harpsichord Society:
Tenth Anniversary Composition Competition

sponsored by The Ida Carroll Trust, The Holst Foundation and Cadenza Music

The Final Round of the Competition took place at Kings College, University of London, on October 28th 2012.

1. Entrants must submit one composition for solo harpsichord
2. The duration of the composition is not to exceed 8 minutes
3. Compositions must be for acoustic performance (no electronics)
4. Compositions may be for single or double manual harpsichord, for a compass of no more than 5 octaves, and without pedal registration

A total of over ninety entries from around the world participated in the competition.

First Prize (£1000 + publication):
Alessandro Ponti (Italy) for “In Fuga da Verona”
Second Prize (£500):
Jung Sun Kang (USA) for “Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love”
Joint Third Prize (£250):
Aled Smith (UK) for “Box Toccata”
Joint Third Prize (£250):
Jürgen Kraus (Germany) for “The Ascent of the K517”
The following entries were also highly commended and will be programmed alongside the prize-winners in the Concert at The Foundling Museum in 2013:
